It's simple to control what storage you use on your device with WhatsApp. You can view which chats use up the most storage space, as mentioned above, in addition to which files are larger than 5MB and which files have been forwarded more than once.

Settings > Storage and Data > Manage Storage on iOS and Android. You can choose the items you want to remove by clicking on the greater than 5MB or the sent several times tabs under the Review and Delete Items section. You may sort by tapping the circle in the bottom left corner, just like with the individual chats.
