The Tibetan Buddhist Gelugpa sect is home to the Likir Monastery. Lana Duwang Chosje erected it in 1065 at the request of Lhachen Gyalpo, the 5th ruler of Ladakh. Here, religious dance performances take place at an annual event. It is also well known for the Buddha statue that is 75 feet tall. The thangkas and the murals on the walls of the Dukhangs are additional significant landmarks in addition to the statue.
