Chiang Mai

A city of historic structures, dense tropical rainforests, and hill trekking, Chiang Mai is one of the greatest places to visit in Thailand for tourists wishing to experience a distinct side of the country. It is shrouded in misty, jungly mountains. Visiting Doi Inthanon National Park, a Himalayan mountain range with isolated communities and breathtaking vistas, is a great opportunity to experience Chiang Mai's wild side.

More active Buddhist temples than any other Thai city may be found in Chiang Mai, including the well-known Doi Suthep (a popular viewpoint with stunning views of the city centre), Wat Phra Singh, and Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. A variety of hill tribes, including the Karen and Meo Hill tribes, may be found not far from the city. You can go there on organised trips to learn more about their history and way of life and to purchase the handicrafts that the tribe members sell to support themselves.

Take a stroll down San Kamphaeng Road, a 10-kilometer stretch of local artisans' marketplace where they sell anything from celadon pottery to lacquerware to silk goods, while you're in town.

The original city wall may still be seen around Chiang Mai's Old City, which is surrounded by channels that were once part of a moat. Some of Chiang Mai's oldest temples, hippest eateries, and most luxurious hotels can be found within the Old City. The renowned Chiang Mai Night Bazaar, which houses numerous food and shopping stalls, is also close to the Old City.
