The Vellayil police have filed a complaint against Olympian P.T. Usha and six others, alleging that they were involved in a real estate fraud. On the basis of a petition submitted by former international athlete Jemma Joseph, a case was brought against them under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (penalty for deceiving and dishonestly inducing delivery of property).According to police officials citing the petition, the accused persons were linked with a private construction company in the city and failed to deliver a 1,012 sq ft flat she had purchased in the city after paying a total of 46 lakh in installments. They stated the money was transferred to the builders after Ms. Usha assured them that the project she was working on would be completed on time. According to the police, the complainant's efforts to recover the money paid as a result of the breach of contract failed due to the accused's apparent lack of cooperation. When she called them, the directors of the private construction company said Ms. Usha was responsible for returning the money, which they claimed never happened. Ms. Joseph's petition was handed over to the Vellayil police for a thorough inquiry by District Police Chief (Kozhikode city) A.V. George. The complainant also filed a complaint with the Kerala Real Estate Regulatory Authority, requesting that action be taken against the private builders and that the money invested be returned.
