Rains that started overnight on Tuesday pummelling Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and its suburbs, flooding a number of areas both inside the city and outside. Two people died in rain-related incidents throughout the State as the rain continued to cause havoc. Over the next 24 hours, a "heavy to very heavy rain" warning has been issued at isolated locations for the districts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, and Tiruvannamalai. Tamil Nadu experienced extensive rainfall, with showers ranging in size from 1 to 9 cm in Kanyakumari and other coastal and Cauvery delta regions. On October 29, Tamil Nadu experienced the first rains of the northeast monsoon. Following the torrential downpours, the city experienced severe traffic jams and the closure of two metro lines. In the meantime, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presided over a virtual conference of senior officials on monsoon preparation in the wake of a string of severe rains in the state of Tamil Nadu. He gave them instructions to work cooperatively and gave them orders to act quickly on complaints. The Chennai Corporation has established a helpline at (1913) so that inhabitants of the city can report any civic issues that may arise during the rainy season.
