TikTok crosses 3 billion downloads

TikTok, a short-video app, has surpassed 3 billion downloads on both the App Store and Google Play. According to app analytics firm Sensor Tower, the ByteDance-owned app is the fifth non-game app to join a group that has hitherto been the exclusive domain of Facebook. WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook, and Instagram are the other four apps that have surpassed 3 billion installations and are all owned by Facebook. Installs are based on international downloads, excluding apps that come pre-installed on handsets. TikTok has now topped $2.5 billion in worldwide consumer expenditure. According to Sensor Tower data, the only other non-game applications that have produced more than $2.5 billion in consumer expenditure are Tinder, Netflix, YouTube, and Tencent Video.
