In the majority of cases in Delhi, Omicron's new sub-variant BA 2.75 has been found. According to Dr. NK Arora, a member of the Centre's Covid Task Force, the Omicron strains circulating in Delhi are more infectious than the base strain that first emerged in January this year, and as a result, the effectiveness of the vaccines in preventing infections has decreased by 20% to 30%. However, according to Delhi’s LNJP hospital doctors, in cases where this sub-variant was found, the severity is lower and patients are healing more quickly—within five to seven days. The positivity rate in the capital stands at 18%.
