Supreme Court has ruled that movie theaters may prohibit people from bringing outside food or drinks inside

On January 3, a Supreme Court panel led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud emphasized that movie theaters are privately owned by their proprietors, who have the right to control whether or not patrons are allowed to bring food and beverages inside. According to Justice PS Narasimha:"The basic premise is that cinema has a right to reserve admission. The cinema owners have a right to sell their own food and beverages." According to Live Law, the bench also instructed theater owners to enable parents with infants and children to bring a reasonable amount of food into the theaters and to provide hygienic drinking water for free to all viewers.
