A petition to persuade authorities not to take physical exams for grades 10 and 12 in 2022 because of the pandemic was dismissed by the Supreme Court on Wednesday. The petition was deemed "ill-advised" and "premature" by a bench led by Justice AM Khanwilkar. "Let students do their job and authorities do theirs... What kind of a petition is this? This will only create confusion," Prashant Padmanabhan, who was representing the petitioner, Anubha Shrivastava Sahai, was addressed by Justice Khanwilkar. Mr. Padmanabhan stated that the Supreme Court had canceled the physical exams last year and ordered the government to create a new assessment mechanism. He noted that even if the COVID–19 situation has eased, the risk of a spike in cases has not passed. He urged the court to issue orders similar to those issued last year. ”The past cannot be the basis for passing orders in the present. We know we had passed orders, but that was reflective of the situation then and not now,” Justice Khanwilkar said.
