Embattled Days after angry demonstrators broke into the leaders' homes in protest over their handling of the nation's worst economic crisis, the Prime Minister's office announced on Monday that Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has officially notified Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that he will step down on July 13 as previously announced. Rajapaksa, the president of Sri Lanka, announced on Saturday that demonstrators had broken into his official residence and demanded that he quit over how he had handled the country's terrible economic crisis. Rajapaksa stated he will stand down on Wednesday. Also declaring his willingness to step down to pave space for an all-party government, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe. According to his office, protesters broke into his home and set it on fire.
