The Southwest Monsoon is anticipated to resurge over the weekend, delivering rain to the central and southern sections of the country despite the lack of rainfall activity that has made this August in India the driest since 1901. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, director general of the India Meteorological Department, stated during a news conference that typical rainfall in September was anticipated to be between 91 and 109 percent of the long-term average of 167.9 mm. He also noted that August's monsoon rainfall was the least in the 122 years since 1901. Even if September's rainfall remained above average, according to Mohapatra, the season's average rainfall from June to September is predicted to be below average.
