Sheel Vardhan Singh, an IPS officer, was named the next director general of the CISF, a central paramilitary unit that protects the country's major civil airports and important institutions, on Monday. Before taking command of the force at its headquarters in the CGOs Complex on Lodhi Road in New Delhi, he was given a ceremonial guard of honour by the troops. Last Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the order designating Mr. Singh as the next CISF DG. The current CISF Director General is a Bihar cadre officer from the Indian Police Service (IPS) who has been serving at the Centre as a special director in the Intelligence Bureau since 1986. (IB).
