The longest-reigning queen in British history, Queen Elizabeth II, passed away on Thursday in Balmoral. Age-wise, she was 96. On September 11, the Ministry of Home Affairs proclaimed a day of state mourning in honor of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The oldest of Queen Elizabeth II's four children and former Prince of Wales Charles, 73, immediately ascends to the throne, according to news agency AFP. Soon, King Charles III will address the country via a broadcast. An Accession Council will be read at St. James's Palace and the Royal Exchange in London, proclaiming King Charles as the new sovereign. Queen Elizabeth II was referred to as a "cherished Sovereign and a much-loved mother" by Britain's new King Charles III. "I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world."Charles said in a statement.
