To attend the state funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who transformed Japan's foreign policy and articulated a bold vision for a quantum leap in its relations with India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Tokyo on Monday evening. Abe was murdered in July of this year, and on Tuesday, a state funeral will take held at Tokyo's enormous Nippon Budokan indoor arena. In honour of Abe, India had declared July 9 to be a day of national mourning. Prior to departing for India, Mr. Modi will also speak with Mr. Abe's widow, Akie Abe. Additionally, Mr. Modi will hold his third bilateral meeting of the year with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and attend a formal ceremony for dignitaries at the Akasaka Palace (State Guest House).
