Pradeep Kumar Rawat, a Mandarin-speaking career diplomat, will take over as envoy in Beijing, according to the Ministry of External Affairs. Mr. Rawat, the Netherlands' Ambassador, will succeed Vikram Misri, who finished a nearly three-year term earlier this month. The next envoy will take over at a time when relations are at their lowest point since normalisation in the 1980s, with a crisis along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) that began in April 2020, triggered by Chinese military infractions, still unresolved and thousands of troops from both sides stationed in forward areas.
