The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the BRICS annual meeting on June 23 and 24, after receiving an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping. In its capacity as the grouping's chair for the current year, China is hosting the summit. The BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) group brings together five of the world's most populous emerging countries, accounting for 41% of global population, 24% of global GDP, and 16% of worldwide commerce. The summit will be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
