In a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged his Russian counterpart to undertake direct talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in addition to the existing conversations between their teams. The phone call lasted nearly 50 minutes, according to reports. The two presidents spoke on the current state of affairs in Ukraine. Mr. Modi was briefed by President Putin on the progress of the talks between the Ukrainian and Russian teams. The announcement of a truce and the establishment of humanitarian corridors in portions of Ukraine, notably Sumy, were welcomed by Prime Minister Modi. Mr. Modi emphasized the urgency of evacuating Indian citizens from Sumy as soon as possible. Mr. Modi was told by President Putin that he would get all possible assistance in their safe escape.
