Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Tuesday that his government would recruit 10 lakh people in the next 18 months "on a mission mode," a big push after the COVID-19 crisis halted government job recruitment. "PM @narendramodi reviewed the status of Human Resources in all departments and ministries and instructed that recruitment of 10 lakh people be done by the government in mission mode in the next 1.5 years,” Mr. Modi wrote in a tweet from his official handle, @PMOIndia, early Tuesday morning. The news came on the very day Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the three Service Chiefs launched the 'Agnipath' scheme, which will recruit young people aged 17.5 to 21 for a four-year term in the armed forces with the option of voluntary retention based on merit after that period.
