Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday, ahead of his journey to Germany, Denmark, and France, that his travel to Europe comes at a time when the continent faces many difficulties and choices, and that he wishes to foster the spirit of cooperation with India's European friends. Mr. Modi said in a statement that he will go to Berlin on May 2 at the request of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, then to Copenhagen on May 3-4 at the invitation of his Danish counterpart Mette Frederiksen, for bilateral engagements and to attend the Second India-Nordic Summit. Mr. Modi stated that on his way back to India, he will stop in Paris for a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron. "My visit to Europe comes at a time when the region faces many challenges and choices," Mr. Modi stated. "Through my engagements, I intend to strengthen the spirit of cooperation with our European partners, who are important companions in India's quest for peace and prosperity," the Prime Minister said in a statement. The visit takes place in the midst of the Ukraine crisis, which has drawn much of Europe together in opposition to Russia.
