In the midst of recent global instability, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Boris Johnson agreed on a new and extended India-UK defence collaboration on Friday, as well as a commitment to complete an ambitious free trade pact by the end of the year. Johnson said the UK is introducing an Open General Export Licence (OGEL) for India to "reduce bureaucracy and slash delivery times" for defence procurement after his wide-ranging talks with Mr. Modi on the second and final day of his India visit. Both sides committed to work together to meet emerging threats spanning land, sea, air space, and cyber domains, with the UK partnering with India on new fighter aircraft technologies as well as in the marine realm to identify and respond to threats in the oceans, according to the British prime minister.
