Following the resignation of dozens of ministers from his scandal-plagued cabinet, Boris Johnson resigned as the head of the British Conservative party, clearing the way for the appointment of a new prime minister. Johnson stated in front of No. 10 Downing Street, "It is clearly the will of the parliamentary Conservative party that there should be a new leader of that party, and therefore a new prime minister." Johnson, 58, said he will quit after receiving numerous resignations from his top team in displeasure with his leadership, but he would continue serving as prime minister until a successor is selected.
