A representative for the airline said on Thursday that the Air India customers who were left behind in Sweden after their flight from Newark to Delhi was diverted to Stockholm will arrive in the nation's capital on a ferry flight on Friday morning. The airline announced on Wednesday that the AI 106 flight from Newark, carrying 284 people and eight infants, had landed safely and that the plane was being thoroughly inspected to address a mechanical problem with an oil leak in one of the engines. The trip carried 311 passengers in total, including 15 cabin crew and 4 pilots, and was operated by a Boeing 777-300 ER. After the emergency landing, oil was discovered flowing from engine two's drain mast during the ground examination. According to a Directorate General of Civil Aviation official in Delhi, the aviation authority will look into the incident.
