Lovlina Borgohain defeated former World champion Nien-Chin Chen in the women's 69kg
semifinals on Friday, July 30, 2021, ensuring India a second medal at the Tokyo Olympics. The
two-time World bronze medalist put in a strong effort against an experienced opponent in the
quarterfinals, winning 4-1. Lovlina will become the second Indian woman boxer to win an
Olympic medal, following Mary Kom, and the third overall. After a dismal performance at the
2016 Rio Olympics, she has resurrected herself.
