The 600 MW Kameng Hydro Power Station and the Donyi Polo Airport, Arunachal Pradesh's first greenfield airport, were both officially opened today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 16 airports will now serve Northeast India. The airport's name pays homage to Arunachal Pradesh's customs, rich cultural legacy, and long-standing indigenous veneration of the Sun (Donyi) and Moon (Polo). This airport will be the third one in Arunachal Pradesh to be in use. Pasighat and Tezu, two other towns in Arunachal Pradesh, were previously connected through the UDAN programme. All eight of the state capitals in the northeast will have airports now that Donyi Polo Airport has been built. Additionally, this is Northeast India's first greenfield project. Before, Itanagar residents who wanted to catch a flight had to drive six to ten hours to either Dibrugarh or Guwahati in Assam.
