The Mumbai Police have implemented Section 144 of the CrPC in the city for the weekend to prevent big gatherings and rallies. This comes after new patients infected with the Omicron strain of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus have been found in the city. For Saturday and Sunday, the order will stay in effect. Anyone who violates it will be prosecuted under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation announced on Friday that three more people had been infected with the Omicron variant, two of whom were asymptomatic and the third had just mild symptoms. In Mumbai, the total number of patients infected by the Omicron strain has increased to five.
