In the largest purchase in commercial aviation history, Air India, a subsidiary of the Tata group, has made multi-billion dollar agreements to purchase 470 passenger aircraft from American and French aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing. Between $70 and $80 billion would be the cost of the entire 470-aircraft contract, according to sources with intimate knowledge of the situation who spoke to NDTV. Air India, which the Tata Group acquired from the government in October 2021, would purchase 220 Boeing aircraft and 250 Airbus aircraft. The significant agreement between Air India and Boeing was discussed in a conversation between Mr. Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The agreement was praised by both parties as a "shining example of mutually beneficial cooperation." The possibility exists for Air India to purchase 70 more planes from Boeing.
