On January 22, a massive fire broke out in a 20-story residential structure in the Tardeo region of central Mumbai, killing at least seven people and injuring 16 others, according to a news source citing the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). According to news agency PTI, which cited a BMC official, the fire broke out about 7 a.m. in the Kamala building, which is located across from Gandhi Hospital in Gowalia Tank. "It is a ground plus 20-storey building. The fire broke out on its 18th floor. On being alerted, the fire brigade personnel and police rushed to the spot. Thirteen fire engines, seven water jetties, among others, are involved in the firefighting operation," he stated. Several people were injured as a result of the incident. Five of the seven injured who were carried to the Nair Hospital died, while two more died at two other hospitals, one each in Bhatia Hospital and Kasturba Hospital, he said.
