India's industrial recovery slowed considerably in December

According to initial official estimates for the Index of Industrial Production, India's industrial recovery slowed considerably in December, with output expanding just 0.4 percent year-on-year and manufacturing activity dropping 0.1 percent. In December, electricity output increased by 2.8 percent, while mining activity increased by 2.6 percent. The IIP shows that capital goods output fell 4.6 percent in the month, while consumer durables and consumer non-durables output fell 2.7 percent and 0.6 percent, respectively, according to use-based classification.

Primary goods production increased by 2.8 percent, infrastructure and construction products increased by 1.7 percent, and intermediate goods increased by only 0.3 percent, all of which were insufficient to reverse the overall industrial output trend.
