According to predictions made by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), India could get normal monsoon rains in 2023. This bodes good for the economy and financial markets, with businesses that focus on domestic consumption standing to gain, according to economists and analysts. The Southwest monsoon season from June to September throughout the entire country is most likely to be normal, or 96 to 104 percent of the Long period average (LPA), according to the IMD's estimate for the four-month monsoon season beginning June 1.
The monsoon core zone, which includes the majority of the country's rainfed agricultural areas, would most likely have normal rainfall, or 94–106 percent of LPA, according to IMD.
