The IAF continued to support operations to rescue workers trapped in a partially collapsed tunnel in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district on Monday by airlifting 36 tonnes of vital equipment using a C-17 and two C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft, officials said. The breakthrough that allowed rescuers to push through a six-inch-wide pipeline through the debris of the collapsed tunnel on Monday will enable them to provide more food and may even allow for real-time visuals of the 41 workers who have been trapped within for eight days. As of right now, the under-construction Silkyara tunnel on the Char Dham route in Uttarakhand is being supplied with oxygen and other necessities like dry fruit and medications through a four-inch existing conduit. To help with rescue efforts at the tunnel site, the IAF has been transporting large machinery.
