As part of "workload management of players," all-rounder Hardik Pandya was appointed India's captain on October 31, 2022 for the three-match T20I series in New Zealand that begins on November 18. Opener KL Rahul and keeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik were rested. For the New Zealand tour, veteran Shikhar Dhawan will captain the team in the three-match ODI series as regular skipper Rohit Sharma, star batter Virat Kohli, and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin have all been rested. On November 18 in Wellington, the T20 series will start four days after the current T20 World Cup ends.
