Government told Rajya Sabha: Four vaccine candidates in human trial stage

Union Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh said on Tuesday that four COVID-19 vaccine candidates are at various phases of human testing, with one, developed by Genique Life Sciences, in the advanced pre-clinical stage. Mr. Singh said Cadila Healthcare Ltd DNA-based vaccine candidate is in phase three clinical testing in a written response to a query in the Rajya Sabha. It has also submitted intermediate data for authorization of emergency usage. A vaccine candidate developed by Biological E Ltd is also in phase three clinical trials.

The Adeno intranasal vaccine candidate from Bharat Biotech International Ltd is in phase three clinical trials, whereas the mRNA-vaccine candidate from Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Ltd is in phase one. Mr. Singh stated that the vaccine candidate developed by Genique Life Sciences Pvt Ltd, situated in Gurgaon, is in the advanced pre-clinical stage. In India, three vaccinations are now being used: Covishield from the Serum Institute of India, Covaxin from Bharat Biotech, and Sputnik V from Russia. Mr. Singh stated that the 'Mission COVID Suraksha — the Indian COVID-19 Vaccine Development Mission' was unveiled as part of the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat 3.0' stimulus package for promoting research and development of Indian COVID-19 vaccines.
