Droupadi Murmu submits her nomination papers on Friday

Droupadi Murmu, the NDA's nominee for the position of president of India, submitted her nomination papers on Friday, ahead of the elections scheduled for July 18. She was accompanied by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president J P Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, chief ministers of all BJP-ruled states, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Nagaland Neiphiu Rio, and ministers from the BJD. There were also representatives from other NDA parties, including Thambidurai and O Panneerselvam of the AIADMK, Rajiv Ranjan Singh of the Janata Dal (U), and Anupriya Patel of the Apna Dal. According to a statement by the Election Commission of India, the nomination papers were deposited with P C Modi, the secretary general of the Rajya Sabha and the Returning Officer.
