Delhi reports 2716 new Covid-19 cases

On Saturday, the number of coronavirus cases in Delhi increased by 50% to 2,716, with 3.64 percent of COVID-19 tests returning positive - a high positivity rate considered one of the early signals of an imminent wave of infections. One death was also reported in the city. The increase on Saturday is the largest since May 21, when 3,009 cases were registered, with a positive rate of 4.76 percent and 252 deaths. It has 1,796 cases and a positivity rate of 1.73 percent as of Friday, New Year's Eve. According to official numbers, 1,313 cases were reported on Thursday, with a 2.44 percent positivity rate. The sharp increase in new cases in Delhi over the last few days coincides with a considerable increase in cases of the emerging Omicron strain of COVID-19 in the city. The number of people who have died in the city as a result of the coronavirus has grown to 25,108.
