Due to the spread of COVID-19, which is predominantly in rural regions, seven of Assam's 34 districts have been placed under complete lockdown. Five of the seven districts are dominated by tea estates. Assam's Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said Biswanath, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, and Sonitpur have been placed under curfew "round the clock" since the number of cases in these districts has been increasing exponentially. Only grocery, fruits, vegetables, animal fodder, milk, and milk products businesses would be allowed to function in these districts until 5 p.m., according to a revised standard operating procedure published by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority on Tuesday. All modes of transportation are prohibited from moving, with the exception of those transporting critical items. Each household in micro-containment zones would get a ration of INR 2,000 from the state government. Inter-district passenger transport services and persons will continue to be suspended, according to the Health Minister. Public gatherings have been prohibited in the districts that have been placed under complete lockdown. Mr. Mahanta stated that the State's 34 districts have been divided into three zones: total containment (lockdown), partial curfew, and relaxed curfew. The curfew would go in effect from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. in the districts that were showing signs of improvement, he said. Dhubri, Kamrup (Metropolitan), South Salmara, Majuli, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Udalguri, West Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Charaideo, and Hailakandi are among these districts. The curfew would be in effect from 2 p.m. to 5 a.m. in districts including Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Nalbari, Baksa, Bajali, Kamrup, Darrang, Nagaon, Hojai, Tinsukia, Dhemaji, Cachar, Karimganj, and Karbi Anglong, which have a moderate positive rate.
