The Central government has raised the upper age limit for the Agnipath initiative from 21 to 23 years in a one-time relaxation. Previously, all new recruits in the Armed Forces had to be between the ages of 17.5 and 21. Cognizant of the fact that it has not been possible to undertake recruitment during the last two years, the government has decided that a one-time waiver shall be granted for the proposed recruitment cycle for 2022," the Centre stated.
