The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on Wednesday that coronavirus testing will be increased in Mumbai, as the test positivity rate in the Maharashtra capital has risen to 6%. The Mumbai civic government issued a warning, claiming that daily new Covid-19 cases have skyrocketed in the city. The BMC cautioned, "With monsoon around the corner, we will now see a rapid rise in symptomatic cases." The number of COVID-19 cases in the city has been continuously increasing since the beginning of May. Throughout a message, BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal urged BMC employees to perform COVID-19 testing on a war footing in Mumbai, guarantee appropriate staff at jumbo field hospitals, and keep them on high alert. Chahal also directed all assistant municipal commissioners in charge of various wards to examine the status of ward war rooms to ensure they are fully stocked with personnel, medical teams, and ambulances, as well as to alert private hospitals. He also urged the assistant civic commissioners to assess the COVID-19 situation in their wards on a daily basis and intervene as needed.
