The road transport ministry has introduced a new registration mark for new vehicles, the Bharat Series, to allow easy transfer of personal automobiles among states (BH-series). In this regard, the government has announced a new car registration system that will eliminate the need for vehicle owners to re-register their vehicles when they move from one state or union territory to another. According to the plan, personal automobiles will be able to move freely throughout Indian states and union territories when they relocate. Currently, a person may keep a car in any state other than the one in which it is registered for a maximum of 12 months. Before the 12-month period expires, the owner must get the car re-registered. The new law intends to make re-registration of automobiles easier when moving between jurisdictions by centralising the system.
