Avani Lekhara, a trailblazing shooter, became the first Indian woman to win two Paralympic medals on September 3 when she won the 50 m rifle 3 Position SH1 bronze, adding to an unparalleled gold she had won earlier in the Games here. Lekhara, 19, placed second in the event with a score of 1176, which included 51 inner tens. Lekhara finished first in the hotly contested finals with a score of 445.9, ahead of Ukraine's Iryna Shchetnik, who lost her medal hopes with a terrible third shot of 9.9 in the elimination. By winning gold in the 10 m air rifle standing SH1 event, Lekhara became the first Indian woman to earn a Paralympic medal.
