The army said in a statement that a truck carrying the soldiers slid into a gorge in Sikkim, killing sixteen soldiers, three of them were officers. According to the army, the truck was a part of a convoy of three vehicles that had departed Chatten in the morning for Thangu. "Enroute at Zema, the vehicle skidded down a steep slope while negotiating a sharp turn. A rescue mission was immediately launched, and four injured soldiers have been air evacuated," the Army said, according to News agency, NDTV. The Army further stated that it is supporting the grieving families at this difficult time.
