A fully vaccinated guy who tested positive in December while visiting family in Chandigarh has become the city's first case of Covid-19's Omicron variant. He was found to be Covid negative today, but five of his seven family members who were tested today returned positive results, with one result still pending. On December 1, a 20-year-old male from Italy who had come to see some relatives in the city tested positive for Covid-19. Since then, he's been in quarantine. His swab samples were sent to the NCDC in New Delhi for genetic sequencing. “He was currently living in Italy. He had come to see some of his relatives here recently. His report for whole genome sequencing was received late night on December 11 and found positive for Omicron variant,” Dr Suman Singh, Director, Chandigarh Health Services, told PTI over the phone. The traveller had received the Pfizer vaccine in Italy and had no symptoms.
