Official sources claimed on Saturday that Gujarat had recorded its first case of XE, a sub-variant of Omicron. The patient, a 60-year-old Mumbai male, got the new strain during a visit to Vadodara last month, but the report of the XE sub-identification variant's in him was only received on Friday. According to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare sources, he later returned to Mumbai. According to PTI, Devesh Patel, Medical Officer of Health, Vadodara Municipal Corporation, said, "A man from Santa Cruz in Mumbai, had tested positive for COVID-19 on March 12 during his visit to Vadodara. His wife was accompanying him.”
"He was found positive on March 12. His sample was sent for genome sequencing. As per the result, declared yesterday, he was found infected with a new mutant XE variant," he continued. The man's current state, according to Patel, is unknown to Vadodara officials.
Meanwhile, one instance of the XM strain has been found in Gujarat and Mumbai, Maharashtra.
